Join us and LEARN
TO FLY! Our award winning paragliding school specializes
in teaching the fundamentals for the beginning pilot. In
this sport you get to have fun right away--no prior flying
experience is necessary. Our unique training hill overlooks
the Pacific Ocean and the Channel Islands. The site offers
gentle unobstructed slopes, and spectacular views from the
air.
Safety is our number one concern. You will fly on state-of-the-art
training equipment, and lessons are taught by USHGA (United
States Hang Gliding Association) certified instructors,
who focus on developing paragliding fundamentals. The basic
techniques of paragliding -- launching, turning, and landing
-- are fairly easy to learn by the first day. Your arms
seem like wings as they control the paraglider above you;
your flying position is as comfortable as a recliner. The
thrill is unlike anything you've ever experienced.
The One Day Paragliding Lesson includes
all equipment and instruction. We start with a classroom
discussion and videos on the mechanics of paragliding. We
cover the equipment, glider control, and flight plans. After
covering the basics, your instructor will offer hands-on
demonstrations. We practice inflating and controlling the
wing on the ground, learning the launch sequence, landing,
and steering skills before introducing the element of flight.
All solo flights are radio-supervised and entirely self
paced. Before launching, Instructor and student recap the
flight plan and landing procedure. Then you're off on your
first fligh! After landing, a company van will be down to
pick you up and bring you to the top of the hill for another
try. Your instructor supervises you on the radio during
your flight into the landing zone. As you progress we will
introduce new concepts to help you improve your technique.
Cost: One Day Lesson $200 per person,
minimum 2 participants.
Typical Time: 4 hours
Level of Difficulty: Easy to Moderate.
Student pilots need to run at a jog in order to launch and
land.
Paragliding includes: All necessary equipment,
USHGA certified instructors and necessary shuttle. Pilots
should bring ankle supportive footwear, or sneakers. Light
cotton pants or jeans are recommended.
Tandem Lessons can be enjoyed by anyone
less than 250 pounds of any age with no prior experience
necessary. These two person tandem flights with USHGA (United
States Hang Gliding Association) certified tandem instructors
can accommodate large and small groups at our flight park.
Minors need to be accompanied by an adult. We use a larger
canopy designed to carry the weight of two people. Each
person has their own harness, and the passenger and instructor
are connected by spreader bars. The Tandem instructor sits
in the back and the passenger sits up front. We organize
our equipment and do a simulation before our actual launch.
When the wind is right we count to three and build energy
by running together as the wing comes overhead into the
flying position. We run with the wing as we are lifted off
the ground, up, up, and away!
