What if I want to snorkel or hike?
Depending on your check in time you may have between 1 and 4 hours of free time on the island to snorkel before we start the kayak tour. Use of snorkel equipment is included in the price of the tour and there are a number of spectacular hikes that can be taken right from the beach. If you choose the 11am check in time, there is no time to hike or snorkel before the tour as we go straight into gearing up for kayaking upon arriving at the island.
What if I want a longer kayak tour?
We offer a full day sea cave kayaking tour that includes 2.5-3 hours of kayaking in the morning and hiking and snorkeling opportunities in the afternoon.
We head out to Santa Cruz Island on a ferry boat, gear up for kayaking and set out to explore the coves and caves between Scorpion anchorage and Cavern Point. Please note that afternoon winds can sometimes make conditions more challenging than in the morning.
Options for the morning free time include taking a world class self-guided or guided hike to Cavern Point and Potato Harbor (free guided hikes are available most mornings with a Channel Islands Naturalist Corps volunteer), snorkeling and swimming, bird watching, a picnic lunch or spending time in the visitor’s center.
If this is your first time kayaking Channel Islands National Park, then this is where you want to go. No other area of the park offers as many sea cave kayaking opportunities. Some of the most beautiful sea caves in the world can be found at Scorpion Anchorage and they can only be explored by kayak.
This beloved California destination is renowned for incredible island kayaking, native wildlife, fantastic snorkeling and hiking opportunities. With our knowledgeable guides and the Channel Islands National Park Visitors Center, limitless discovery awaits.
Santa Barbara Adventure Company is an authorized kayak guide and outfitting service provider for the Channel Islands National Park at Scorpion Anchorage and all other areas of the park. Dangerous conditions may exist at any time of the year, and we cannot guarantee cave exploration.
