Sea Cave KayakingMore Info
Welcome to Channel Islands Adventure Company, owned and operated by Santa Barbara Adventure Co.
Scorpion Anchorage falls within Channel Islands National Park and Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary as well as a state Marine Protected Area. No other area of the park offers as many sea cave kayaking opportunities. Some of the most beautiful sea caves in the world can be found at Scorpion Anchorage.
This beloved California destination is renowned for incredible island kayaking, native wildlife, fantastic snorkeling and hiking opportunities. With our knowledgeable guides, limitless discovery awaits. To learn more about preparing for your trip and the Channel Islands National Park’s Visitor center, please visit the park service website.
We meet at the Island Packers ferry office in Ventura Harbor between 7:00 – 8:00 AM for check-in, and the ferry pulls away from the dock at 8:00 – 9:00. Please check your confirmation email for actual departure times. It takes about an hour to cross the channel unless we see dolphins or whales, in which case they will take a little time to follow along and talk about them.
When we reach Santa Cruz Island we provide a basic paddling instruction/safety talk and distribute all necessary gear. Afterward we begin the guided paddle along the coast in one direction, exploring the sea caves as you go. At some point you turn around and come back past the landing area and explore in the other direction.
You return to the beach around 1:30, and have until about 3:00 – 4:00 (your ferry captain will tell you your pick-up time) to eat the lunch that you bring, enjoy one of the island’s many great trails, snorkel, or relax on the beach.
Channel Islands Adventure Company was recently selected as the sole concessionaire for kayaking at Scorpion Anchorage, Channel Islands National Park. Trips are available year-round.
