High Ropes Course
The Santa Barbara Adventure Company’s High Ropes Course consists of a series of group initiatives that focus on communication, trust, and problem solving techniques. Through active experimentation, reflection, and application of skills, participants explore the complex and transformative meanings of trust, cooperation, and thinking outside the box, all of which create a unique bonding experience. Throughout this challenge-by-choice program, SBACo’s skilled facilitators will guide discussions that clarify correlations between the ropes course and the group’s daily environment.
Beach or Field Olympics
Get ready to have some fun in this exciting Beach or Field Olympics Games Package. This upbeat and high-energy group oriented challenge, designed for all ages and abilities, will bring out community spirit in all of your team members. A combination of new games and regular favorites begin with an opening ceremony and warm-up exercises followed by team competition in a fun and dynamic program designed to get everyone involved. Teams will earn points while rotating through prearranged stations, ultimately determining who will be the overall Beach or Field Olympics Champion. This program is designed for good-natured competition, but can be altered for a less competitive focus.
Channel Islands Sea Cave Kayaking Leadership Training
This spectacular adventure is an advanced teambuilding challenge set against the backdrop of the Channel Islands National Park. Challenging and exhilarating, this modified guide training is a great exercise in leadership. Your team will help each other in and out of sea caves, practice self rescues, and maneuver through difficult scenarios. This is a great trip for teams that want to build new levels of leadership and cooperation.
Wine Blending
Our knowledgeable guides will shuttle your group to a local winery where you’ll get to blend wines, design your own labels and participate in bottling your unique blend. This is a great opportunity for a group to get to know each other while sampling local wines and learning about the wine making process.
Each team will be given 3 or more varieties to work with, as well as any necessary tools. Teams will strive to create the best blend while utilizing terminology and concepts employed by wine makers and sommeliers. Ultimately the team must come to a consensus on which blend best represents their efforts and will outperform the blends of their competitors. The winery will judge the blends and provide feedback.
Afterward each team will design a personalized label and participate in the bottling process, returning home with a bottle of their special blend. This fun activity will not only educate participants about the wine making process, but will also sharpen negotiating skills, improve team communication, and build team cooperation and collaboration.
Orienteering
Overcome challenges as a team and navigate from point to point over unfamiliar terrain. We’ll teach you to use a map and compass to read the landscape, which will culminate in a course, race or other challenges. Your team must work together to overcome obstacles in a fun and adventurous environment. This trust building activity encourages groups to utilize the communication skills and strengths of one another to accomplish a goal while learning useful wilderness survival techniques. This is a fun outdoor team building challenge.
Get Lost
After blindfolding your team and dropping them off in a remote location, they will remove their blindfolds and begin the journey on foot back to the starting point. Your team will only be able to use what has been provided: a map, a compass, and a guide who will only assist them by answering three questions throughout the day. Is your team up for the challenge?
Geocaching
Geocaching is a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure that has become widely popular for people of all ages. A geocacher can place a treasure container (called caches) anywhere in the world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology, and then share its existence and location online. Anyone with a handheld GPS device can then try to locate the cache. A cache in computer terms is information usually stored in memory to make it faster to retrieve, but the term is also used in hiking/camping as a hiding place for concealing and preserving provisions. There are already many established cache locations throughout Santa Barbara County. This activity requires teams to use problem solving and technical skills to find a reward, navigating obstacle and terrain impediments along the way. Since the motto behind geocaching is “cache in, trash out”, encouraging participants to clean up any trash along the way, this activity also fosters ecological and conservation awareness.
Historic Scavenger Hunt
Visit historic sites, beautiful vistas, and the local hot spots while your teams dash around town, look for the clues and try to win the scavenger hunt. You must solve riddles and work together to win the race. This activity requires team members to work together while sharpening awareness skills and fostering a sense of cooperation in a unique variation of a historical walking tour of Santa Barbara. Your group will also learn about natural and local history, geology, ecology, and conservation.
Rock Climbing: Hands-On Anchor Building
Put your life in your team member’s hands. This full day adventure will give you an introduction to rock climbing, complete with a climbing and belaying lesson. Your group will also have an option to learn about anchor building… if you are up for the challenge. This is a phenomenal way to have groups work together, relying on each other to fulfill a sense of accomplishment. By switching the climbing and belaying duties, participants will develop a sense of trust in their team mates and often provide support and encouragement to one another.
Build a Bike
If your team loves a challenge, then they will love this activity. Teams will be responsible for the reassembly of a bike from scratch which will then be donated to a boy or girl in need. This exercise teaches valuable skills in organization, receiving instructions, delegation, cooperation, problem solving, and responsibility while helping provide community service.
Hike and Bike Combo
Your group will be physically challenged on a 3-mile hike up a winding mountain trail where they will encounter various plants and other wildlife. At several stops along the way, skilled facilitators will offer initiatives and challenges for the group. Upon reaching the top, the group will encounter beautiful views, take a quick break, and then get outfitted for the biking segment. This fun bike ride starts high up in the mountains and heads downhill, stopping to enjoy scenic views and various points of interest with discussions on natural and human history. The group then travels on to the beach for a final closing challenge.
Activities and challenges include hiking with natural history, fully outfitted downhill biking, team building exercises, propped initiatives and group challenges designed to break down cliques and encourage members to share personal goals.
