Fun Things to Do in Santa Barbara: June 2019

June is a great time to enjoy Santa Barbara’s beaches and hiking trails, with average temperatures in the 70′s – you are practically guaranteed a beautiful day in June! Throughout the month we are taking guests kayaking and surfing in Santa Barbara and at Channel Islands National Park. June also brings Summer Solstice. Santa Barbara is home to one of the largest and most exciting Solstice Parades in California. This wonderful celebration started in 1974 and has grown and now attracts over 100,000 spectators from all over the world!

Summer Solstice Parade – Saturday June 24th;  Parade features more than 1,000 parade participants, complete with extravagant floats, whimsical costumes and creatively choreographed dancing ensembles. At high Noon, creative floats, fascinating costumes and brilliant masks begin their journey from Cota Street up State Street to Micheltorena, transforming downtown Santa Barbara into a vibrant splash of color, music and dance.

Channel Islands National Park Kayaking Tours – available most days in June: Kayak and explore this remarkable ocean environment. Only 20 miles off the California Coast, the Channel Islands isolation over thousands of years has created unique animals, plants and birds found nowhere else on Earth! Recently featured in T.C. Boyle’s book When the Killings Done, the island has experienced massive restoration. Come explore the beauty and richness of California’s Channel Islands.

Painted Cave Kayaking – Get ready for a full day at sea . Explore Painted Cave, one of the largest sea caves in the world! Painted Cave is within a Marine Protected Area and also a part of the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. Enjoy breakfast & a hot lunch, as well as whale watching on the boat ride where you may spot sea lions, otters, dolphins, marine birds and whales. Santa Barbara Arts & Crafts Show, Every Sunday Approximately 300 Santa Barbara County resident artists come to display their own works in an informal atmosphere under the palms of seaside Chase Palm Park. All items are original art, created by the artists you meet. The show is held every fair weather Sunday and Special Holidays. Time: 10 a.m. ’til Dusk.

First Thursday — Art, Music & Theater On the first Thursday of each month, downtown galleries keep their doors open late allowing the public to enjoy local art in a fun and social atmosphere. Additional attractions such as music, artist openings, demonstrations, and refreshments are featured at participating venues. Downtown Santa Barbara Time: 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Downtown Santa Barbara Farmers Market, Every Saturday and Tuesday Come down and buy local fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, small plants and specialty items. Street musicians, music and downtown shops and restaurants. Year round, rain or shine. Corner of Santa Barbara and Cota Streets on Saturday and on State Street (500-600 bocks) on Tuesday.
