Things to do in Santa Barbara: October 2018

october santa barbaraAs October begins, we are again blessed with many wonderful festivals to visit and enjoy. Later in the month, there are plenty of Halloween activities to attend including the Corn Maze on Hollister and Boo at the Zoo. Have a wonderful October and safe trick-or-treating!

Channel Islands Sea Cave Kayak Tours: Daily
This beloved California destination is renowned for incredible island kayaking, native wildlife, fantastic snorkeling and hiking opportunities. With our knowledgeable guides and the Channel Islands National Park Visitors Center, limitless discovery awaits.

Surfing Lessons: 10:00am & 1:00pm
This time of year is an excellent time to surf- the waves are getting bigger! The Santa Barbara coastline offers several fun locations for introductory surfing lessons. We will teach you the basics of surfing on the beach before hitting the water to catch some waves.

Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze
Lane Farms opens their popular Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch to the public in the fall. Open 7 days a week, including evenings on weekends. Enjoy hayrides, farm animals, tractors and farm equipment, educational displays, corn maze and of course….Tons of Pumpkins!

Santa Barbara Harbor & Seafood Festival: Oct. 13th  
The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum will host a variety of free children’s activities and offer discounted admission. The Santa Barbara Harbor Seafood Festival draws thousands of people to the Waterfront every year to enjoy succulent seafood – like fresh lobsters and barbecued albacore, plus a host of other seafood treats and marine-related information and demonstrations.

Wine Tours of Santa Ynez, Every weekend 10am pickup
Come explore Santa Barbara’s wine region by shuttle van or on bike. Santa Barbara Adventure Company offers three incredible wine tasting tours. All tours include wine tasting fees, a friendly guide and a tasty lunch. Wine Tours by Bike also include all needed biking equipment and shuttle support. Call for more information 805-884-9283.

Boo at the Zoo, October 19th, 30th, and 21st
The Zoo transforms for three nights of safe, traffic-free trick-­or-treating for monster-ous thrills and chills including a Trick-or-Treat Trail, Boo Choo Choo train rides, Creepy Crawly encounters, Spooky Storytelling, Goblin Games, and more. It’s the most popular family Halloween festival in the tri-counties area! Tickets available at the Santa Barbara Zoo.

Santa Barbara Arts & Crafts Show, Every Sunday
Approximately 300 Santa Barbara County resident artists come to display their own works in an informal atmosphere under the palms of seaside Chase Palm Park. All items are original art, created by the artists you meet. The show is held every fair weather Sunday and Special Holidays.
Time: 10 a.m. ’til Dusk

First Thursday — Art, Music & Theater
On the first Thursday of each month, downtown galleries keep their doors open late allowing the public to enjoy local art in a fun and social atmosphere. Additional attractions such as music, artist openings, demonstrations, and refreshments are featured at participating venues. Downtown Santa Barbara
Time: 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Downtown Santa Barbara Farmers Market, Every Saturday and Tuesday
Come down and buy local fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, small plants and specialty items. Street musicians, music and downtown shops and restaurants. Year round, rain or shine. Corner of Santa Barbara and Cota Streets on Sunday and on State Street (500-600 bocks) on Tuesday.
Time: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m/4:00pm – 7:30.
